STATUE OF THE IMMACULATE CONCEPTION RESTORED
October 26, 2018 The statue of the Immaculate Conception in the church of Santa Maria delle Grazie in Largo Luciani has been restored to its former splendor.
The statue that was kept in the Scacco-Vaccaro museum, adjacent to the church of Santa Maria delle Grazie, is an 18th century statue of fine workmanship, without a signature but probably created by a craftsman from Salerno.
The statue has returned to shine thanks to the commitment of the Inner Wheel Salerno Carf Club, in collaboration with the Fondazione della Comunità Salernitana and was presented to the people of Salerno on October 26, 2018 during a solemn ceremony.
The restoration work was entirely supervised by the restorer Daniela Mellone and the antiques company "Vassallo Antiques" of Montecorvino Rovella . Since the work was 80% destroyed, it was necessary to proceed with the removal of surface deposits, an ecological anti-woodworm treatment, cleaning, filling, brush repainting, pictorial integration and satin varnishing.
